Introduction

This week, announcements have come from the government parties who, together with the Centre Party and the Liberals, have reached an agreement: some of the support measures introduced to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic will be extended.

About the short-term support In a press release, the government states that companies will be able to furlough employees for up to 80 per cent of their working hours during July, August, and September. The state will cover 75 per cent of the costs. In practice, this means that an employee can retain 88 per cent of their ordinary salary during an 80 per cent short-term furlough with a 75 per cent subsidy rate. For the employer, salary costs will simultaneously decrease by 72 per cent.

A change compared to before is that newly hired employees will also be able to be covered by the support. This is done by April 2021 being counted as the reference month, i.e. the month used to determine which employees can be included in short-term lay-offs.

For sole traders and partnerships with at least one natural person as a partner, the announcement that turnover support will be extended. New regulations governing the support will be presented later by the government.

Likewise, it is extended transition support, both the ordinary and the enhanced support directed at certain particularly affected companies. However, these extensions must be approved by the EU Commission before the government can formally decide on them, as the support is considered state aid.
