The state rent subsidy was introduced last year to temporarily compensate landlords who lower rents for tenants operating in certain vulnerable sectors affected by the pandemic. It has primarily focused on supporting certain companies in the hotel and restaurant industry, retail, and certain other businesses that have been economically impacted due to COVID-19.
According to the government's decision, rent support can be applied for for the first quarter of 2021 if the landlord and tenant agree on a discount on the fixed part of the rent. According to information on the government's website, the agreement must be in writing and have been reached by 31 May. Landlords can receive support with 50 percent of the agreed discount, and the support is designed in the same way as for the period April to June last year.
Support is sought from the county administrative boards, which are the processing authority, and the application is open between 3 May and 30 June. The government has also announced that the support will be extended and will also apply to the second quarter of 2021; more information on this is expected later in the spring.
